About Off Grid Hackz
Off Grid Hackz is a one-person project run by Stine Grytøyr through Norsk Webservice, a sole proprietorship based in Norway.
The site grew out of a personal interest in nature, outdoor life and practical self-reliance. It collects off-grid and preparedness guides based on established outdoor practice — clear instructions for people who want to handle a weekend in the woods, a cabin without mains power, or a week when the electricity, water or shops stop working.
It is written for beginners and improvers rather than instructors: households who want a realistic blackout plan, campers and hikers building basic skills, cabin and van owners running small solar setups, and anyone who would rather fix something with a tarp and a bucket than buy their way out of it.
Tom Woods is a fictional character
The bearded guide you see across the site is an editorial persona, not a real person. Tom Woods gives the guides a consistent voice — he is not a survival instructor, he holds no qualifications, and he has never tested a product or performed a technique for us. Where you see “Tom's quick take”, read it as the editor's summary in character. Nothing on this site should be taken as the account of a real expert's personal experience.

Every article is researched, written and maintained by hand. The fictional host Tom Woods is used as a narrative device to make the guides easier to follow — but the techniques, tools and safety advice are real.
